Kaitlyn: A C-Section Birth After Pushing for Four Hours due to Baby’s Positioning

Kaitlyn from St. Louis joins us on the podcast to share her birth story! Kailtyn and her husband Matt met in Kindergarten and started dating in college. Matt proposed to Kaitlyn 10 days before she was set to start her Nurse Anesthetists Program. They started trying in 2020 to conceive and found out they were pregnant fairly quickly. Pregnancy was fairly easy for the most part and decided to move forward with an OB she worked with because she saw him in action and really enjoyed his care.

Around 39 weeks, her water broke around 3am and decided to go to the hospital around 6am. She labored on her yoga ball and in the shower until contractions were feeling uncomfortable, and that is when she made the decision for an epidural. She progressed smoothly with some pitocin and started pushing. She pushed for hours before an OB said the baby’s head was tilted and pushing into her pelvic bone with every push. The OB had another scheduled c – section and Kaitlyn felt as if she was on a time crunch. By the time the OB returned from his other surgery, she still had not given birth, she knew it was her turn. This is part 1 of 2. Tune in next week for the conclusion of Kaitlyn’s birth story.
